Hood Ornament, Packard, Albuefera, Valencia, Spain

A classic symbol for a classic car, made when cars were still something to dream about. If Detroit wants to see what it is doing wrong, all it has to do is go to a classic car show and see how cars should be made.

Boy and Dolphin, Aquarium, Valencia, Spain

This is one of my favorite photos from the trip to Spain. The dolphin is watching the boy but the boy seems not to even notice the dolphin.

Fireworks, Las Fallas, Valencia, Spain

Every night around midnight or later they would have these huge firework displays. I was lucky enough to view them from a penthouse right across the street from their launch point.

Big ones, small ones, they all get burned down.

Falla Burning, Valencia, Spain

Some of these fallas cost close to a half million euros, over a half-million in U.S. Currency. After about 4 days, at 12 midnight on the night before the feast of St. Joseph, they burn them down, using firecrackers to ignite the fires. At each location, and there are hundreds of them, they burn the fallas down on site.

Fallas, Valencia, Spain

A close-up look at one of the sculptures that are part of a massive falla, this one of a gondolier in a satire of sex traveling. The work shows an artist made this sculpture.

Las Fallas, Valencia, Spain

The streets are decorated with neon lights during the festival. This was one of the more elaborate.

Bush Falla, Valencia, Spain

One of the many fallas that satirize political figures. A person who in my opinion cannot be satirized enough.

Bosom Boys, Falla, Valencia, Spain

A lot of the fallas are humorous, as this one demonstrates.

Geisha Falla, Valencia, Spain

The attention to detail in the Fallas are amazing. These are artists creating very impressive works of art, knowing they will last only a few days.

Donkey Falla, Valencia, Spain

Looming over the intersection, a 40 foot donkey. It will definitely get your attention.

Fallas, Valencia, Spain

Fallas are mostly caricatures, over-the-top figures, though some are very realistic. Some of the ones I saw satirized politics, travel, religion, marriage, and sex.

Fallas, Valencia, Spain

In Valencia, they have this huge street festival called Fallas, where groups build these huge paper-machie and styrofoam sculptures of various themes in the intersections of their neighborhoods. They also have fireworks displays, parades, and lots of firecrackers going off, a huge street party that last a week or so.
